Calla Lilly .. The Elegant Beauty of a flower

It reminds me of my favourite artist, Georgia O’keeffe. She did a series of presentations of the calla lily, from different angles, taking a new path on how to image her subject, the flower, which was so avant garde then, and how she effected still life presentations in art afterwards. She was fascinated and effected by photography, as she lived at the turn of the 20th century. Her husband was the photographer Alfred Stieglitz.

Georgia O’keefe painted the calla lily like a beautiful dancer. How it turns away, and twists its long leafless stem high, and how the waxy petal cup opens ever so seductively. I don’t know, but I hear flamenco at the back of my mind when I see this flower over and over again. How about you?
